Jessica Simpson provided quite a few iconic quotes on the program Newlyweds years ago. Meanwhile, it has been more than sixteen years since we saw Jessica and ex-hubby Nick Lachey on the MTV program. How is Jessica doing now, anyway?

Statements

“Am I eating chicken or tuna now? I know it’s tuna, but it says chicken from the sea”, “The only sport I do is shopping” and “23 is old! It’s almost 25, which is almost mid-twenties,” are just a few of Jessica’s legendary statements at the time.

Back in the day – and secretly still – we could entertain ourselves for hours with the programs on MTV. From Room Raiders to Dismissed, these iconic shows have a special place in our hearts. Just as much of a gem was Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. In it, we followed the lives of Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, who had just gotten married. With Nick’s down-to-earthness and Jessica’s spontaneous and sometimes silly moments, this was pure entertainment.

Breakthrough

While Nick was already known to the general public as a member of boy band 98 Degrees, Jessica also finally broke through as a singer due to the reality program. Thus, her single With You  became a huge hit in the United States. She later made her acting debut in The Dukes of Hazzard, in which she played Daisy Duke . After being married for only three years, Jessica and Nick decided to break up because they had grown too much apart. And, of course, that also meant the end of Newlyweds. Sad!

Marriage

Meanwhile, Jessica is 41 and happier than ever. She is currently married to American football player Eric Johnson, with whom she has three children, Birdie Mae Johnson, Maxwell Drew Johnson and Ace Knute Johnson.

Jessica and Eric got married more than seven years ago. That the two still love each other is evidenced by the infatuated snapshots Jessica occasionally shares on her Instagram. For Jessica, it was love at first sight, she said in 2020, more than a decade after the two met. “He knocked on my dreamy cottage door (sigh), I let him in and never let him go.” She noted that she fell “head over heels in love” that day. Aahw!

Behind the scenes

These days she is not in the spotlight as much, but behind the scenes she is still a busy bee. For example, she has her own webshop with clothes, shoes and accessories. She also wrote a book in 2020 in which she talks candidly about her singing career, her relationships and the sexual abuse she experienced as a child. In addition, Open Book also discusses the effect of reality TV and Jessica talks about her problems with her weight and with alcohol. Heavy!
