Man photographs pregnant wife but sees something startling in the background

What was supposed to be a relaxing day at the beach turned into a fight for survival

It was a cloudy autumn morning when James and Maria decided to take one last trip to their favorite beach before their little one arrived. Maria was nine months pregnant and her due date was fast approaching, but she was determined to make this final memory before the arrival of their first child.

Although James was hesitant about going, he could see the excitement in his wife’s eyes and decided to go along with her plans. As they packed their bags, James decided to bring his polaroid camera to capture some special moments on their trip. They set off early in the morning, driving through the countryside enveloped in an overcast sky.

James glanced at the dark, misty skies ahead, feeling a surge of worry as if the weather itself was warning them to turn back. Yet, they continued driving straight towards it. He turned to see his wife, content and unworried in the passenger seat, and chose to push his concerns aside. The thought of stepping onto the sand and feeling the ocean breeze was too enticing. They had no idea that their calm beach day was about to take a dark turn…

When they arrived at the beach, they were delighted to find that they had the entire place to themselves. The weather was cool but comfortable, and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore was soothing. Maria was overjoyed to be there and she smiled as she breathed in the fresh sea air.

James, stepping onto the beach, felt a wave of hesitation wash over him. As he watched Maria’s face light up with excitement, his own heart was heavy with a silent dread. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to be there; the beach was beautiful, and he loved seeing her so happy. But with Maria’s due date just around the corner, he couldn’t shake off a nagging sense of worry.

What if something happens?, he thought to himself, scanning the deserted beach for any sign of help should they need it. This wasn’t about him being afraid; it was about being a soon-to-be dad who wanted nothing more than to keep his family safe.

As he followed Maria’s joyful steps, his protective instinct was in overdrive, even as he tried to hide it behind a smile. Everything’s going to be okay, he reassured himself, taking a deep breath of the salty air, hoping it would calm his racing thoughts.

Yet, James found the reassurance fleeting as his gaze lifted to the cloudy skies above. The overcast canvas seemed to mirror the tumult of his thoughts, a visual echo of his inner turmoil. Each cloud, heavy with the promise of rain, felt like a metaphor for his own laden worries.

He couldn’t help but draw parallels between the unpredictability of the weather and the unpredictability of their current situation. Is this a sign?, he wondered silently, watching as a lone seagull navigated the somber expanse, unbothered by the looming shadows.

James looked into Maria’s eyes, searching for any sign that she might be feeling the same worry he had. He was hoping to see if she, too, felt unsure about being at the beach so close to her due date. But all he saw was her smiling back at him, full of happiness. “What?” she asked, catching his concerned look with a light laugh.

It hit James then that Maria wasn’t wrapped up in the same fears that were bothering him. And maybe that was a good thing. They were about to become parents, and this could be one of their last chances to enjoy some quiet time together, just the two of them. He realized he might be overthinking things, letting his soon-to-be-dad worries get the best of him.

With a smile, he shook his head and laughed off his own overprotectiveness. “Oh, it’s nothing,” he said, deciding to let go of his fears and enjoy the moment with Maria, cherishing their time together before their family grew.

He took a deep breath, feeling more at ease, and his smile became more confident. Looking at Maria, with the beach as a beautiful backdrop, he couldn’t help but notice how happy she looked. All his worries seemed to melt away as he smiled at Maria. “You’re looking amazing, love. Let me take some pictures of you to capture this moment”.

James took out his camera and began taking pictures of his wife. Even though the sun was hidden behind clouds and mist hung in the air, it created a unique light that made everything look special. He began snapping away, each click capturing the precious moments they shared together.

As they walked along the picturesque beach, James eagerly snapped away with his camera, determined to capture every last moment of their childless lives together. Maria smiled and posed for the photos, enjoying the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.

After a few snapshots, Maria chuckled and softly said, “Okay, I think that’s plenty.” It was a familiar thing for her; she liked being in photos but quickly felt self-conscious if the spotlight lingered too long. James, recognizing her discomfort, smiled warmly and put the camera away, well-versed in his wife’s subtle cues.

“She has no idea how beautiful she is,” James thought. But perhaps that was part of her charm. He eagerly picked up the polaroids, waiting for them to develop. When they did, he excitedly grabbed them, but his excited expression quickly turned to worry as he looked at the first picture.

“What’s wrong?!” Maria asked, quick to sense her husband’s distress. James did not reply at first. He stood completely still, staring intently at the polaroid in his hand. Maria walked over to him, her heart racing with worry and confusion, and took a look at the photograph he was holding.

At first glance it looked like nothing special, but then she noticed something very peculiar in the background of the picture. Something that shouldn’t have been there, though she couldn’t quite make out what it was, it was enough to send a chill down her spine.

James and Maria stood quietly for a moment, both shocked by what they saw in the Polaroid. Maria’s heart was pounding, and she suddenly felt scared. She looked all around the empty beach, hoping to see someone else, but they were completely alone.

James was the first to break the silence. “We need to do something. Now!” he said firmly. His voice sounded more determined than Maria had ever heard before. She knew they had to act quickly, despite feeling nervous. The quiet beach, usually so peaceful, now seemed eerie with no one else in sight.

What initially appeared to be a harmless photo of Maria turned out into something completely different. In the background of the photograph something terrible could be seen in the water. “We need to call someone” said Maria. But when checking their cellphones it turned out that they had no reception.

They quickly ran to the spot where the photo had been taken, and looking out into the water, they were horrified to see that the photo had not lied. There was a creature about 80 feet out into the sea, and it was clearly in distress.

Maria immediately felt a pull to help the distressed creature, her voice filled with urgency, “We have to help it, James!” But James hesitated, eyeing the shape in the water cautiously. “It looks like a shark, Maria. We need to be careful,” he warned, the concern evident in his voice. However, Maria was determined to do what she could to save the creature.

Despite James’s apprehensions, Maria remained determined. “We can’t just ignore it, suffering like that,” she firmly stated, her mind clearly made up. The sound of crashing waves and the distant cries of birds made everything feel more intense. James realized that Maria wasn’t going to change her mind; they were in this together, come what may…

Taking a deep breath, James paused for a moment to gather his thoughts. He could feel the tension between them, the salt air heavy on his tongue. “It’s not just any shark,” he finally said, his voice slow and careful. “It’s a great white.”

Maria felt a chill run down her spine. She knew that great whites were one of the most dangerous predators in the ocean. Her instinct was to back away slowly, but she couldn’t bear the thought of leaving the shark to struggle and probably die.

“We have to help it,” she said firmly, her voice shaking with fear. “We can’t just leave it here.”James hesitated for a moment before nodding in agreement. Together, they carefully approached the shark, keeping a safe distance from its thrashing body.

But it quickly became clear that they could not help the animal by themselves. Great Whites were some of the most dangerous creatures in the ocean and on top of that, Maria’s advanced pregnancy limited her ability to help without endangering her baby.
