Man relocates to an abandoned bear den
Living in the wilderness is tough, but one man has made an abandoned bear den his home. Jake, as he’s known, turned to the cave when a series of hardships left him with no place to go. It’s not ideal, but it offers safety from the elements and a sense of stability, at least for now.
The cave’s thick rock walls protect him from rain and wind, making it a reliable shelter. However, Jake hasn’t been through a winter here yet. He’s unsure if the cave will keep him warm enough when the temperatures drop or if he’ll need to find another solution.

Securing the Entrance
To make the cave more livable, Jake has blocked the entrance with wooden pallets he found in a nearby dump. He tied them together with rope and weighed them down with rocks to keep them secure. The makeshift door keeps animals out while he sleeps, giving him some peace of mind.
Jake gets food from the surrounding area, foraging for berries and wild plants. He also fishes in a nearby stream and occasionally trades wood carvings with hikers for extra supplies like canned food. This resourceful approach has worked so far, but Jake knows it might not be enough once winter sets in.

Inside the Cave
The inside of Jake’s cave is basic but serves his needs. A mattress, found in a discarded pile of furniture, serves as his sleeping location. Some old blankets serve as extra bedding.
An oil lamp is the only source of light and heat in the cave. It helps keep the space warm enough at night and adds a sense of comfort in the darkness. While Jake has made the cave feel like home, he’s unsure if it’s a place he’ll stay long-term, especially with winter looming.
