Homeless man finds wallet – when he sees what’s inside he immediately calls the police

The life of this man was about to change

Homelessness is a huge problem all around the world. In every big city, you will see people down on their luck, sleeping on the sidewalks and begging for cash. They are ignored by most people, but sometimes an individual sees it upon himself to change the life of someone who’s less fortunate. Today we’ll tell you the story of Chester Gibson and a wallet he found on the street.

Chester Gibson has had it rough. Ten years ago, his brother scammed him out of all of his money. His landlord evicted him and since then, Chester has been living on the streets. He has to beg to get by, which requires a bit of luck. One day, his luck completely turned when he found a wallet on the sidewalk. But when he saw what was inside, he immediately called the police.

But how did Chester get into this situation in the first place?

It had been a regular morning. Chester had woken up on the porch of a department store, which sheltered him from the rain. Unfortunately for him, in order to have enough money for breakfast, he now had to beg by the side of the road… In the rain. 

Chester had been sitting in the same spot for three hours straight, without any of the morning commuters so much as noticing him. They all kept their gaze forward as they strode towards their job. Chester’s sign, which read “Please spare some change for food, I am very hungry”, was completely soaked. The rain didn’t look like it was going to let up.

But then something incredible happened…

After three hours, a man passed who had the decency to smile at Chester. Chester smiled back and the man dropped a $10 bill into his hat. Finally a display of generosity! The man continued walking, seemingly in a hurry. Chester was just about to pick up the $10 bill to go buy some breakfast, when something happened that would change his life forever.

As the man had hurried towards his destination, his wallet had slipped from his pocket and fell on the sidewalk. None of the commuters that passed it seemed to notice, but Chester did. There it was. His luck had turned. Because the wallet looked very thick, which could mean that there was a lot of money inside.

Chester walked over to the wallet and picked it up. But when he saw what was inside, he immediately called the police.

Chester picked up his hat with the $10 bill and went back to the sheltered porch, where he inspected the wallet. Inside, there was a total of $600. This man had carried a lot of cash on his person. Also inside were an ID card and some photos of who must be the man’s wife. 

While considering what to do with this fortune, Chester thought back to when his brother had scammed him out of his money. He had felt so betrayed. No matter how little money Chester had, or how hungry he was, he was not going to let himself become the very thing he despised most. So he called the police.

He had no idea that his life was about to change. Whether that means for better or for worse, you’ll find out by continuing on to the next page.

Chester explained the story to the police and they agreed to come pick it up. But when they arrived and saw the homeless man’s tattered clothes and unclean appearance, they put him in handcuffs. Chester protested, but the police officer wouldn’t hear it. He was arrested for stealing the wallet and taken to the police station.

At the police station, it didn’t matter what Chester said. Nobody was going to believe a homeless person. The officers all thought he was untrustworthy, or even a drug addict. So they locked him in a cell and called the owner of the wallet, informing him that it had been stolen.

Chester was afraid the generous man was going to think that he had stolen his wallet…

The man, whose name was Adam Foster, arrived at the police station. He looked at Chester in his cell with confusion and demanded an explanation. The police officers explained that Chester had stolen his wallet, but that he would now get it back. Including the $10 bill that they had found in Chester’s pocket.

The generous man, Adam, took his wallet and was about to leave, when he suddenly turned around.

“Wait a minute,” Adam said. “How did you find him and my wallet?”. The police officers looked at each other and then explained that somebody had called the police and said they had found a wallet. Chester must’ve stolen it afterwards, they concluded. There was no way that a poor homeless man was going to turn in a wallet with $600 in it.

Adam demanded that the police would check which phone number had called. When they did, they found out that it had actually been Chester. They were forced to let him go. Adam thanked him from the bottom of his heart and offered him a ride back to the city centre.

In Adam’s car, they started talking. Chester explained what had happened between him and his brother, which had eventually caused him to lose his house and all of his life savings. Adam just listened. Eventually, the car came to a stop in the city centre.

Chester had no idea that his life was about to change.

Chester was about to get out of the car and thank Adam for a ride, when Adam pointed at the building they had stopped in front of. It was a barbershop. Adam offered to pay for a haircut, something that Chester hadn’t had in at least two years. He happily agreed.
