8 Ways To Save Gasoline

This’ll help you save a lot!

Gasoline prices have been a lot higher than we were used to for months now. It is therefore logical that everyone is trying to save as much gasoline as possible. We have eight tips for you that will definitely help you do this.

8. Staying alert and maintaining sufficient distance

By constantly staying alert in traffic, you ensure that you have to brake and accelerate less often. That saves a lot of gasoline in the long run. Tailgating can also cost a lot of extra gasoline because you are constantly hitting the brakes. By keeping enough distance from others on the road, you prevent that.

7. Check tire pressure regularly

When you drive, the pressure on your car tires increases. It’s important to regularly check your car’s tire pressure (or have it checked) to make sure the tires can handle that pressure. This is because if they can’t, you’ll have to slow down and accelerate more often (which in turn costs extra gasoline).

Wondering what else you can do to save gasoline? You’ll read about it on the next page!

6. Don’t hit the brakes too hard at traffic lights

We talked about being alert on the previous page. This applies not only to situations where you are “just” driving between others, but also when you are driving towards a traffic light. By making sure you slow down a little while before the traffic light, you don’t have to hit the brakes full force later. That saves a lot of gasoline and therefore a lot of money!

5. Maintain a constant speed as much as possible

This can be tricky if you are on a major road, but on rural roads it is definitely worth trying. Accelerating unnecessarily wastes gasoline. By driving at a constant speed as much as possible, you can save up to thirty percent gasoline.

On the next page, we have more helpful tips that will help you save gasoline. Read on quickly!

4. Carry as little stuff as possible

Even though you often feel that the cargo in the back of your car doesn’t matter, it does use up a lot more gasoline. By taking only the essentials and leaving the rest at home, you can save a lot of gasoline. Plus, it saves a lot of towing!

3. Combine short trips with each other

Just doing some groceries, getting some extra stuff for vacation, picking up the kids from the sports club…. We often make a lot of short trips by car. Try combining them. Not only does it save time, but the car only has to be fully started up once.

2. Turn on the air conditioner as little as possible

On hot days, cars generally consume less gasoline because it doesn’t take them as long to fully warm up. Still, the gains made on this can quickly evaporate the moment you turn on the air conditioning. Better to choose to open the car windows a little more often and save the air conditioning only for highway driving.

1. Leaving the heating off

The same applies to heating in the car as to air conditioning: it makes for a pleasant environment, but it also costs a lot of gasoline. Try to turn on the heater in your car as little as possible. Is it really necessary? Then turn it on only when you are already driving. That saves a lot of heating time and gasoline.
