He Built His Dream Home Inside an Iceberg — Take a Peek Inside

Most people dream of a beach house or mountain cabin for retirement. But 74-year-old James had a different idea: he wanted to live inside an iceberg.
His friends thought he was joking, until he bought an old icebreaker ship, sailed north, and began carving a home straight into the heart of the ice.
Two years later, James lives full-time in a cozy, fully insulated home made from solid blue ice, complete with power, plumbing, and incredible views.

The front door opens into a surprisingly warm hallway. Thick insulation and solar panels keep the interior at a comfortable temperature, even in sub-zero weather.
James designed everything himself. The walls are reinforced with treated glass panels that allow the natural ice to glow gently from behind.
Visitors are always stunned by the contrast, from icy wilderness outside to the soft, cozy atmosphere inside.

The living room features a handmade wood-burning stove, comfy wool furniture, and a panoramic ice window that frames the frozen landscape.
A bookshelf holds journals from his travels and a photo album of the entire construction process. “It was a lot of trial and error,” James laughs, “but I wouldn’t change a thing.”
He even added a skylight, a small circle of clear ice that fills the room with soft, natural light during the day.
