Why You Should Stop Throwing Away The Top Leaves Of Your Pineapples

Here’s why you should stop throwing the top of a pineapple away

Pineapples are usually one of the first ones people think of when they think about tropical fruits. This makes it a common treat during warm summer days. The sun and a nice slice of sweet pineapple seem to go hand in hand for a lot of people.

They are one of the most popular fruits around the world. They are used for both culinary and non-culinary purposes. The plant used to be found only in South America, but nowadays you’ll find them growing in greenhouses and on tropical plantations around the world. And did you know that you can make a very healthy drink from the peels?

But the flesh, juice and peels are not the only things you can use. Don’t throw away the leaves on the top either! We’ll tell you what you can do with them.

What to do with the top

Okay, so the first thing you need to do is to twist the top off a fresh pineapple. It won’t take a lot of force, it will come off easy enough. You then start by peeling off the bottom 3-4 sets of leaves, exposing the center.

Curious why you should do this? Continue on the next page!

Let it dry

Now you’re going to want to let it dry. Just leave it to airdry somewhere for 2 days, allowing the plant to heal and get ready for the next step. The next step is where it’ll start to become clear what you are going to do with the leaves.

Soil

Next, you grab a pot with soil and plant the top of the pineapple. You can do this easily by twisting the top into the ground, as you would with a screw. Please do this gently. The next step is to water your new plant from the top, every 4-5 days.

You won’t believe what this plant turns into! Continue on to the next page to find out.

Growing

After just a short while, the leaves will start growing outwards. One day you’ll discover that a stem is growing from the middle of the plant. What happens next is absolutely fascinating and unexpected. If you want to know what happens before you try it out yourself, continue on to the next page.

Disclaimer: it will ruin the surprise! You could just try it out yourself.

A new pineapple

From the stem, a new pineapple will grow. It will start very small, but will soon grow larger and larger. So, if you want a cool pineapple pant in your home… Don’t throw away the top! Instead, plant it and grow your own new pineapple!
