How convenient!

An air fryer has become the showpiece of the countertop these days. We make a lot of different dishes in the air fryer and we can no longer go without it. To give your device a long life, it is important that you clean it regularly. With these tips you can get even the most stubborn dirt out of your device. This way you can enjoy it for an extra long time!

1. Consult the user manual!

Although there are many cleaning methods that work for every air fryer, every appliance is different. In the manual of your air fryer you will find instructions from the manufacturer for your appliance. Follow these and you will see that most of the dirt disappears like snow in the sun!

On the next page you will find a tip that is useful for all air fryers.

2. Remove the basket after use.

Your air fryer is still very hot after use, so it is not recommended to start cleaning immediately. It’s best to let it cool down. The basket cools down even faster if you remove it from the air fryer after use. You can get started even sooner this way!

And then? We answer that question on the following pages.

3. In the dishwasher?

Can’t you just clean your air fryer in the dishwasher? First, we do not recommend putting the entire appliance in the dishwasher. It is and remains an electrical device. But often the individual parts, such as the basket, are dishwasher safe. You do run the risk of the non-stick coating being affected because the dishwasher uses very hot water. Looking at the life of your air fryer, it is smarter to wash the parts by hand.

On the next page you will find a handy tip to keep your air fryer clean!

4. Non-stick coating

If you have an air fryer without a non-stick coating, you run the risk of your food sticking. It will be a lot more difficult to clean the basket. If this happens to you often, you might want to look at a model with such a handy layer, or one with a ceramic basket. Saves you work again!

Still caked in grease and dirt? On the next page you will read a super smart way to make cleaning easier.

5. Loosen fat

Has the fat in the air fryer gotten completely hard because it cooled down? Fortunately, there is an easy way to combat this. For example, you can pour hot water over the caked-on fat, so that it becomes more liquid (and therefore easier to clean)!

An even easier way to loosen this caked-on fat can be found on the next page.

6. Use the air fryer itself!

If hot water is not powerful enough to reheat and soak the cooled fat, you can always use the air fryer itself. Turn it back on and let it come up to temperature and the temperature of the fat will rise with it! If you now turn the appliance off and let it cool down long enough so that you can remove the fat without burns, you will see that this is a lot easier than when it is completely cold!

You can save yourself even more trouble by looking at the next page.

7. Clean the air fryer after every use.

It may sound obvious, but if you often forget this, it is useful to get this into your routine. Cleaning the air fryer after every turn will prevent it from getting extremely dirty. This way you save yourself effort again! Your future you will thank you.

If you prefer to postpone this, you will find a way on the next page to see that it is time to clean your air fryer.

8. Smoke

If a large bill of smoke comes out of your air fryer every time you turn on the air fryer, it’s a clear sign that it’s time for a thorough cleaning. This means that the caked-on fat in your air fryer is burning. Doesn’t smell fresh, but it’s also very unhealthy. This way, all kinds of particles get into your food. Not very tasty!

Don’t want to let it get that far? Read on quick!

9. Taste

When your burger suddenly tastes like chicken nuggets, or when your fries suddenly have a very strange taste, this often means that there were still old food scraps in the basket. By cleaning your air fryer regularly, you prevent these kinds of taste changes!

Want to enjoy your air fryer for longer? Take a quick look at the next page!

10. 2nd basket

Do you want to make it really easy for yourself? Don’t feel like cleaning your air fryer after every turn? Then it might be an idea to purchase a second basket. So you can rotate between 2 (or 3, or 4, that’s entirely up to you)! This way you don’t have to clean as often and you have a replacement part if one of the two breaks.

How to ensure that the baskets last a long time can be found on the next page!

11. Preventing Scratches

When you remove encrusted dirt from your air fryer basket with metal objects, such as a spatula or fork, you run the risk of scratching the basket or the non-stick coating. You use this to loosen small particles, which then end up in your food. By avoiding things like steel wool, hard brushes and metal spatulas you ensure that your basket(s) will last a long time. Use soft sponges and wooden or plastic utensils instead.

There is another easy way to avoid having to replace your baskets quickly. Click further!

12. Let the basket dry

After cleaning your air fryer parts, it is best to let them dry completely before putting them back in the appliance. Water contains all kinds of minerals, such as lime. If you don’t dry your basket properly, it can get a lot of deposits. This of course depends on how hard the water is from your tap, but it is still advisable to go over it with a tea towel!

On the next page you will find a very smart tip that will save you a lot of effort.

13. Parchment paper

Do you want to make it very easy on yourself? Then place a piece of parchment paper or aluminum foil at the bottom of your air fryer basket. Do not forget to poke some holes in this so that the air can pass through. You can even find parchment paper sheets especially for air fryers on the internet. Ready to fry? Grab a paper and throw it away. Bye bye crumbs and dirt!

14. Bad smells? Not with this tip

You may already be using it to clean your kettle, keep your dishwasher fresh, and now also to clean your air fryer: vinegar. To combat that annoying odor that lingers around your air fryer after a while, proceed as follows: fill an oven-safe dish halfway with vinegar and half with lemon juice. Place this in the basket of your air fryer, and then turn the device on for about 2 minutes. Voilà, gone frying smell.

15. Use a soft cloth

It is best to use a soft cloth to wipe off your air fryer. If you use rougher materials, you may damage the non-stick coating. And of course, you want to avoid that. You can buy these soft wipes at the supermarket.
