14 Things You Didn’t Know About Elon Musk
We are still confused about number 14…
While Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is often in the spotlight and is known to enjoy some media attention, there are still many things we don’t know about the space enthusiast. For example, did you know that Elon was born in South Africa? We have listed this and a few other interesting facts for you.
1. Elon was born in South Africa
Elon was born to Errol and Maye Musk in Pretoria, South Africa. He moved to Canada when he was 17 to study at Queen’s University.

2. Elon was pretty quiet as a kid
Elon would be so quiet as a child that for a while his parents thought he was deaf. The businessman was quite smart as a child and before he was nine he had already read the entire Encyclopædia Britannica – an English-language encyclopedia with contributions from more than four thousand authors. He had also taught himself to code at age twelve.
3. Elon was bullied as a child
As a child, Elon was the youngest and shortest boy in his class. He was often bullied and once even ended up in the hospital after a group of boys had pushed him down the stairs. He was often beaten and at the age of fifteen he decided to take up karate, judo and wrestling.

4. Elon no longer has contact with his father
Errol Musk is no longer in Elon’s life. Elon is said to have once described him as “a terrible person”. At the age of 72, Errol had a son with girlfriend Jana Bezuidenhout. What’s upsetting to the Musk family is that Jana is not only Errol’s girlfriend, but also his stepdaughter!
Errol was married to Heide Bezuidenhout in the past. Heide and Errol tied the knot when Jana was four years old. He also has two children from his marriage to Heide: Alexandra ‘Ali’ Musk and Asha ‘Rose’ Musk. When Errol informed his daughter Ali that he was expecting a baby with Jana, Ali freaked out. She reportedly called her father crazy and mentally ill.

5. Mother Maye Musk is a model
Maye Musk, 73, is quite successful just like her son. She published the book A Woman Makes a Plan: Advise for a Lifetime of Adventure, Beauty, and Success and she also works as a model and dietician. She has appeared on the cover of the health issues of Women’s Day and Vogue magazine.

6. Tesla was almost called Faraday
If Elon hadn’t been allowed to call his company Tesla, because of naming rights, he would have named his company Faraday. With this he wanted to pay tribute to the British physicist and chemist Michael Faraday.
7. Elon is also known as the ‘real life’ Tony Stark
Marvel comics artist Stan Lee based the character Tony Stark on Howard Hughes (an American pilot, film producer, aircraft manufacturer and philanthropist). But Robert Downey Jr – who played Tony Stark in the Marvel movies – based his role in Iron Man on Elon Musk.

8. Elon was featured in Iron Man 2
Speaking of Iron Man, did you know that Elon was featured in the second installment of the franchise? He was briefly in the movie along with Robert Downey Jr. Additionally, the Tesla CEO was also featured in The Big Bang Theory once.

9. Tesla isn’t Elon’s only company
Did you know that Elon is also the founder of PayPal? He is also the founder of Zip2, SpaceX, Hyperloop, OpenAl, Neutralink and The Boring Company. It turns out that this man has a hard time doing nothing.
10. Elon’s first wife was Justine Wilson
Elon married Justine Wilson, a science fiction writer, in 2000. In 2002 they had their son Nevada together. After ten weeks, however, he died of cot death.

11. Elon and Justine only had sons
Aside from Nevada, Elon had five other sons with Justine. In 2004, Elon and Justine became parents to twins Griffin and Xavier. The couple then had triplets in 2006 : Damian, Saxon and Kai. In 2008 Elon filed for divorce. He reportedly let Justine know that he was engaged to Talulah Riley via text message a few weeks later.
12. Elon married Talulah Riley twice
Westworld actress Talulah Riley began dating the wealthy entrepreneur in 2008. The two didn’t waste any time and got married in Scotland in 2010. In 2012, Elon threw in the towel and divorced the actress. In July 2013, it was announced that the two had given their relationship another chance. On December 31, 2014, they married again, but their marriage was short-lived once more. On March 21, 2016, the two divorced again.

13. The Tesla CEO is now in a relationship with Claire Elise Boucher
Claire Elise Boucher is also known as the Canadian singer Grimes. Grimes and Elon got in touch via Twitter. Grimes responded to a joke from Elon and that’s how the ball started rolling. During the Met Gala in 2018, the then thirty-year-old singer walked the red carpet together with the then 47-year-old entrepreneur. The two immediately announced that they were an item. In May 2020, the couple shared that they had become parents to son X Æ A-12 Musk.

14. X Æ A-12 Musk is pronounced as…
After Grimes and Elon announced their son’s name to be X Æ A-12 Musk, the boy’s name went viral. Many wondered how his name was supposed to be pronounced. Some claimed it was just “Kyle,” and still others said his name is pronounced “James.” What is the correct pronunciation? Elon explains this in the video below.
The couple also changed their child’s name to: X Æ A-Xii. Reportedly, the couple would mainly call their son Little X. Ah!
