Woman sees man crying at airport after he had to throw away a package
The man had tears in his eyes…
As everyone knows, there are strict rules at airports. This also applies to the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport in Florida. It was here that a man had to throw away a package which resulted in him crying. Rico Bankston and Ivelise Hernandez went to investigate and found out why the man was so sad.
A normal flight
Ivelise Hernandez flies regularly so she didn’t expect this flight to be so special. She is always accompanied by her boyfriend, Rico Bankston. He always takes her to the airport, as he did on that one day. The two were lining up at security when she noticed something odd.
Security
Going through security is not the most enjoyable part of a flight for anyone. Still, Ivelise and Rico didn’t have much trouble with it. It was only striking that this baggage check took longer than they were used to. This was due to a man standing in line in front of them. He had brought an item that did not pass inspection.
Forbidden goods
According to security, the man had something in his bag that was not allowed on board. Ivelise and Rico couldn’t see what was in the package. They noticed that the man became emotional just thinking about leaving the package behind. They did not immediately think that the item in question would actually be dangerous. In the United States, baggage rules have been tightened up significantly since 9/11. The two did not find it very strange that the check lasted a little longer.
Trash can
Even though the man begged and pleaded for a while, it turned out to be in vain. The package was not allowed on board. Security told him he could throw the package in the nearest trash can. So this is what the distraught man decided to do.
As the emotional man passed security, it was Ivelise’s turn. Before going through security, she decided to make a somewhat strange request to her boyfriend.

The package was saved
Both Rico and Ivelise felt sorry for the man. They hated to see the man like this. Because of this, Ivelise decided to give Rico a mission as they parted ways . She asked him if he would try to find out what was in the package. After all, Rico had brought her to the airport on his own and could therefore easily take the package home with him. That’s why he decided to retrieve the package from the trash can.
Curiosity
Of course, Ivelise was very curious about the contents of the package. After landing, she quickly turned on her phone to find out if Rico had been successful. When she saw what Rico had sent her, she understood what had made the man at the airport so sad.
A disappointing find
When Rico came home after driving Ivelise to the airport, he swiftly opened the package. Rico had expected to find something very special because of all the fuss at the airport. The content, however, was quite disappointing; a snow globe.
A snow globe
The snow globe perhaps was a bit disappointing at first. However, Rico soon discovered the emotional value behind it. It contained two pictures. The first picture was a little girl and the other picture was an older couple. That wasn’t all. The snow globe also played the song “Greensleeves”. Furthermore, the globe was engraved with the text “We love you Katie. Nana and Dad 01/25/16”.

Search for the owner
When Ivelise returned from her trip, the two set out to discover the story behind the snow globe. They had no leads. Still, the two did not give up. The snow globe clearly held significant important emotional value to its owner. However, the search was exceedingly difficult, as they didn’t have a single clue.
Ivelise decided to start their search on Facebook. She had low expectations because Ivelise did not have a large reach. She shared all the details she knew about the snow globe, but things were looking bleak for her and Rico. After all, the couple only had their mutual friends on Facebook. Ivelise and Rico were determined, but they never expected the message to go viral.
Viral
The two had clearly underestimated the magic of the internet. The post went so viral that it was shared more than 48,000 times. While the number of reposts continued to grow, there was still no response from anyone who knew the family. However, the two were given another clue. An employee of Things Remembered replied that she sold snow globes like that at the place she worked at. Ivelise’s heart suddenly started beating faster.
A lead
From this unexpected angle, the two got a lot further. The store employee may have had nothing to do with that particular snowball, but she did have the opportunity to help out. She decided to send the photo of the snow globe to head office. Finally, the head office figured out the name of the person who had ordered the snow globe; Linda Modry.

Granddaughter Katie
Linda Modry had ordered the snow globe for her five-year-old granddaughter Katie. Unfortunately, Katie never received her present because it was thrown away at the airport. Her father Michael had intended take it with him after he had visited his parents, in other words, Katie’s grandparents.
Getting in touch
Meanwhile, Ivelise and Rico were very happy that they had received a name. In fact, the two found out that Linda lived in the same area they did. Ivelise and Linda got in touch and decided to meet.
Local broadcaster
The Facebook post has since gone viral. The local news even picked up on the story and decided to make an item about it. Surrounded by cameras, Linda visited Ivelise’s house.
The meeting
It soon became apparent that returning the snow globe meant a lot to both women. The front door opened and the women embraced one another. Linda had brought flowers for Ivelise and they both started crying. Such a happy day!
Linda said the timing was perfect. It would soon be Katie’s birthday, so the snow globe was a great gift. This was when Ivelise discovered the real story behind the snow globe.
The real story
The date in the snowball did not represent a date of birth. It was the date of Katie’s adoption. The snowball was a gift to show everyone how welcome Katie was in her new family. As Linda shared the story with Ivelise, she called her son and little Katie. This moved Ivelise even more. She could hear how much impact the snowball had on the whole family.
Loving reactions
Ivelise and Rico received many nice messages after their mission was completed. They themselves look back on the whole event with great pride. This goes to show, a small act can have many beautiful consequences.
