This pitbull refused to leave the shelter without his chihuahua friend
This pitbull got a new family, but would she abandon her best friend for it?
On a hot summer day, a young adult man stopped by Rocket Dog Rescue in San Francisco. He was looking to adopt a dog. It didn’t take long before his eye fell on a three-year-old pitbull named Merrill. There was only one problem: Merrill had a good friend, and without him she wouldn’t leave the shelter…

Merrill, along with several other dogs, was locked up in poor conditions. She was underfed and her coop was always filthy. The only support she had was from another dog. It was a small Chihuahua, with whom she had to spend days at a time in her pen.
One day the dogs were released from their cage. Merrill was taken to Rocket Dog Rescue along with the chihuahua, later named Taco. The two dogs could stay there until an owner was found for them.

After the surgery, the volunteers tried to place Merrill in a room alone so she could recover more quickly. However, that would prove extremely difficult. Taco grew more and more restless, and Merrill also began to moan after she woke up.

Because the two dogs couldn’t stop howling, the volunteers decided to put them back together. Taco immediately snuggled close to Merrill and didn’t leave her alone anymore. The volunteers were amazed at how caring the little Chihuahua was for his pitbull friend.
Things went wrong immediately when Merrill was taken out of her cage. Both she and Taco started barking and whining incessantly. The man didn’t understand what was going on with his new dog. Grumpy, he went to the staff to ask what exactly was going on.
