The resident of this house let matters get out of hand
The older you get, the more difficult it becomes to take good care of yourself and your household. At a certain point you reach an age where you can no longer manage on your own. Many elderly people then ask for the help of their children, grandchildren or other relatives. But what if you’re all alone? Then things can go from bad to worse. This also applies to this apartment’s 76-year-old resident.
Finally, she enlisted the help of two cleaning ladies. What they found in the apartment they had never seen before in their long careers.
The cleaning ladies
Meet Yvonne and Angela. The cheerful ladies are sisters and share the same profession. Together they have already done almost 6000 cleaning jobs, so you can say that they have a lot of experience. They have been doing this work for quite a few years now. They started their first job 19 years ago.
Their motto? “The dirtier, the better”, Yvonne says. Her sister Angela agrees:“ We like it when it’s dirty. The dirtier, the more satisfaction we get from our work”. The two are therefore specialized in the thorough cleaning of extremely dirty places. Yvonne and Angela would find out during this job that there is even a gradation above “extremely dirty”.

Arrived at the house
Yvonne and Angela arrive at the house in good spirits. They’re anxious to get started! They get a lot of satisfaction just from cleaning very dirty houses, but now they would also be doing a good deed for an old lady. Two birds with one stone! Once they arrived at the house, the sisters found out that this would not be an ordinary assignment.
When they crossed the threshold, they were shocked. The sisters had completed more than 6,000 jobs in their careers, but what they found was unlike anything they had seen begore. The homeowner stayed in a different location for a few days so that the sisters had all the time and space for cleaning, but now the sisters began to doubt if a few days would cut it…
The filthy kitchen
Yvonne and Angela went straight into the kitchen through the front door. The first thing they noticed was the smell, which nearly knocked them back. It was a combination of fungus and dog. They were so nauseous they could have thrown up. There are bags of waste everywhere in the kitchen. What a mess.
The ladies have no idea what color the floor is, as it is covered in a layer of dirt and mold. Dirty dishes are everywhere, every wall is stained with grease, the garbage can is filled to the brim, dog hairs are everywhere and everything is covered in a layer of mold. These are inhumane living conditions. Does the old lady prepare her meals here?
However, the kitchen turns out to be the cleanest place in the house… What they find in the next room is unbelievable.
The disgusting bathroom
The bathroom turns out to be a lot dirtier than the kitchen. This floor is littered with waste. And not just the floor, every surface is covered with old, filthy stuff and packaging. The toilet looks like it came straight out of a horror movie. It’s covered in brown spots and the sisters wonder if it’s still working at all.
Closer inspection reveals that the toilet cistern is leaking. This causes water to spill onto the ground. There is not just a puddle, no, the brown, smelly water can be found throughout the apartment. This leak is probably years old. Again the sisters are amazed by the fact that someone could actually lives here. How can the elderly woman wash herself here, in the midst of this filth?
The living room is just as bad…
The dirty living room
The living room looks like a bomb of garbage had exploded in it. Junk is everywhere. It smells like mold. The dirty, brown water of which they have now discovered the origin has also flowed into this room. It is damp, everything is mouldy, the walls are yellow. It is really incredibly what the cleaning ladies find here. Would the 76-year-old lady be able to watch TV here? In the midst of all this filth?
It is quite dark in the living room and Yvonne and Angela are reluctant to touch the moldy curtains with bare hands. They try the light switch, but the power doesn’t seem to work here either. Maybe that’s a good thing, because the layer of brown water in combination with electricity could cause an unfortunate surprise. They decide to turn on a flashlight
They will never forget what they found.
Where to begin
Using the light from the flashlight, the sisters discover that the living room is even worse than they first thought. There’s moldy food everywhere, old packaging, old stuffed animals, radios, clocks … In one word: junk. It is obvious that the elderly resident had not cleaned the kitchen, bathroom and living room for years. But what about her bedroom? It had to be cleaner than what Yvonne and Angela had found in the apartment so far… Right?
In the 19 years that the sisters have been doing this job, they have never seen a house as filthy as this one. They might be specialized in cleaning extremely dirty places, but this was dirtier than extremely dirty. Everything is moldy and it is very filthy. “I think this is the worst one”, says Angela. Yvonne removes all doubt.“This is the worst one”, she says with conviction.
The question now is whether they will ever be able to clean this house. And they haven’t even seen the bedroom yet!
The bedroom full of mold
The sisters are already wondering if they will ever be able to get this house in good shape again. But before they can come up with a plan of action, they must first explore the entire house. They decide to go into the last room: the bedroom. The door jams, but as soon as it is finally open, the sisters are shocked by what they see.
Is this a bedroom or a chemistry experiment gone wrong? Yvonne can’t say anything but “Oh my god”. The bedding is filled with mold. It is very humid and the air is stuffy. It smells really bad. The sisters have never seen anything like this room. You normally only see this in movies.

Hundreds of pets
There is a litter box full of droppings in the room. These seem to have been in there for quite some time, because white mold has grown on them. The floor is just as bad. This one is covered with a layer of dirt a whole centimeter thick, mixed with mold. It is unbelievable. The sisters lift the bedding. It’s completely rigid and has become very heavy. They discover that there is a bed hidden underneath.
In doing so, they disrupt the sleep of hundreds, perhaps thousands of insects. Spiders, woodlice and centipedes scatter in all directions. Time to air out the room. The sisters pull aside the filthy curtains and find an unimaginable collection of cobwebs. At least the elderly woman had enough pets…
The sisters have a lot of questions. They decide to ask the only person with answers.
Call the owner
The bedroom is so bad that Yvonne and Angela realize that the old woman can’t possibly continue sleeping here. A young and healthy person wouldn’t even survive that. Let alone a woman her age. The sisters reiterate that they have never seen anything like it before. They decide to call the old woman to find out how this came to be.
Yvonne tells the old lady who she is and that they just managed to open the bedroom door. The lady says that she has not been in that room since her husband died 9 years ago. She didn’t want to be in the bedroom or sleep without the love of her life. She tells Yvonne that she wants to go home as soon as possible. It’s an important place for her.

The sisters get emotional
Yvonne is very upset by the conversation. She’s crying. “This is so terrible, how awful … This is not fair. She just wants to go home!” she repeats. Yvonne had asked the elderly woman where she slept.“I sit on the couch with some blankets. My dog keeps me warm”, was her answer.
The sisters decide to do everything they can to make the house livable again for the poor widow. Yvonne says she would feel enormously guilty if the woman had to come home to a filthy house again. She and Angela put their heads together and get to work on a plan. The sisters were determined to prove that they were true professionals. No job is too big for these two!

The cleaning starts
Yvonne and Angela decide to start in the bedroom, the room where the woman has not been in the past 9 years, because as it turns out, the room is full of things that belonged to her late husband. His suits, his stamp collection. Once these items have been moved to another place, the sisters can get to work.
What they discover is bizarre. The mattress filling has completely disintegrated. What used to be soft and springy has now turned into brown lumps of mold. It is most reminiscent of mud. The bedroom is so bad that the cleaning ladies decide to throw away all the furniture. They empty out the entire bedroom. Everything goes out.
The next room
Now that the bedroom is empty, they can turn their attention to the living room. Everything stinks. Behind the couch they find a vacuum cleaner that has been retired for years. There are food scraps and rubbish everywhere. In disbelief, Yvonne realizes that the old lady is sleeping in the midst of this filth. On this rotting couch, under damp, moldy blankets. The room reminds the sisters of a garbage dump.
Even the most experienced cleaners would have turned up their noses at this apartment. There is not a word in the dictionary that can describe how bad this property was. But Yvonne and Angela are doing everything they can. “We’re going to get this job done, even if it kills us”, says one. “That’s not unlikely”, says the other.
Time for the next room!
The bathroom
A setback awaits the sisters in the bathroom. The explanation for the brown color of the water turns out to be quite nasty. The water has mixed with the elderly lady’s dog’s feces. This smell is released when they are mopping. Centimeters of dog poo water in a room where the old woman washed herself every day…
But no challenge is too big for Yvonne and Angela. The cleaning sisters roll up their sleeves and get to work. With some cleaning and scrubbing, buckets of cleaning agent and a hydrogen vacuum cleaner, they know how to give the bathroom a deep clean. Yvonne even manages to fix the toilet. After a while, she can see herself in the shiny enamel of the toilet seat. She is very happy about this.

The cleaning continues
It was clear that the homeowner was very upset about her husband’s death. The household had suffered as a result, leading to her living in a kind of waste container with rooms. In the fridge, the sisters found a carton of apple juice that had been years old. It went into the container, along with the entire refrigerator.
The cleaning took four days. When Yvonne and Angela arrived on site, it was the dirtiest home they’d ever entered. After 40 hours of cleaning, liters of cleaning agents and 4 large containers full of waste, they had managed to make the house look presentable. The apartment had become clean and tidy again.
