2. Machu Picchu (Peru)

These 15th-century Inca ruins were abandoned in the 16th century and rediscovered in 1866. It’s located in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, 2,430m above sea-level. The hike up to the city ruins takes four days, but you can get there faster by train. High in the slopes of the Andes, it’s one of the most breathtaking reminders of the Inca Empire.

3. Kawachi Fuji Gardens (Japan)

You might have already seen pictures of this picturesque garden in Japan. It’s located in the city of Kitakyushu and sees its fair share of tourists, who can’t wait to walk under the famous purple, blue and white floral arches. In these gardens you’ll find two flower tunnels that are each around 100 meters long, with 22 different varieties of wisteria.

4. Paro Taktsang (Bhutan)

Also known as the Tiger’s Nest, Paro Taktsang in Bhutan is a cliffside Tibetan Buddhist monastery.  In 1998, a fire broke out in the main building of the complex, destroying many valuable paintings, artifacts and statues. 5. Marble Caves (Chile)

These caves are located in Patagonia, in the south of Chile. This natural wonder was formed by erosion by water more than 6000 years ago. The caves, which are completely made of marble, change colors depending on the amount of light and the water level. This means you can visit them multiple times and not see the same caves twice.

6. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (China)

The landscape in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in China looks like it comes straight out of a SciFi movie. It might look familiar, because it was one of the inspirations for the world of James Cameron’s 2009 hit movie Avatar. The pillar-like natural structures are the result of natural erosion.

7. Waitomo Glowworm Caves (New Zealand)

The Waitomo Glowworm Caves are one of the most famous natural attractions in New Zealand. The cave is filled with thousands of glowworms who create a spectacle of light unlike any you have ever seen before. 8. Antelope Canyon (USA)

Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon on Navajo (a Native American tribe) land in Arizona. The Navajo name for the canyon is Tsé bighánílíní, which means the place where water runs through the rocks. It was formed by the erosion of sandstone, due to flash flooding. Over time the water smoothed away all the hard edges and the characteristic “flowing” shapes were created.

11. The Door to Hell (Turkmenistan)

The Darvaza gas crater, also known as the Door to Hell or the Gates of Hell, is a unique place in the world. While digging for gas, the ground collapsed in a sinkhole and started leaking methane gas. Wanting to contain it, Soviet geologists set the gas on fire to prevent it from spreading. It has been burning continuously since 1971. In January 2022, President Berdymukhamedov publicly declared that a method to extinguish the fire needs to be found so that the effects on the environment and public health can be curbed.

This spring is the largest hot spring in the United States and the third largest in the world. It is located in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. It was first discovered by geologists in 1871, who gave it its name because of the coloration of the spring. This mosque in Iran, which is also known as the Pink Mosque, is famous for its extensive colored decorational glass. 14. Taj Mahal (India)

The Taj Mahal, a gigantic white marble mausoleum found in India, was built from 1631 and 1648 commissioned by the Mogul emperor Shah Jahan. 15. Gardens by the Bay (Singapore)

This nature park is part of Singapore’s plans to raise the quality of life by improving the amount of greenery and nature in the city. It has since become a popular tourist attraction. Most notable are the 18 Supertrees that range between 25 meters (82ft) and 50 meters (160ft). Visitors can walk on a walkway between two of the larger Supertrees, from which they can enjoy a panoramic view of the Gardens.
